Portraits of Recovery present the film launch of My Recoverist Family, starring the performance artist David Hoyle and his LGBT+ Recoverist collaborators, directed by Amanda Ravetz and Huw Wahl.

Study Centre

Before the film, meet artist David Hoyle and PORe director and curator, Mark Prest with a private viewing of artworks selected by them from the Whitworth’s collection.

7pm

Grand Hall

Presided over by high-wire avant-guardian and force of nature, David Hoyle, in collaboration with artist and makers Jackie Haynes, Another Adele, Justin Freeman, Mark Prest and Greg Thorpe, the film follows an LGBT+ group from Greater Manchester, exploring non-linear journeys through recovery from substance use and beyond.

Grand Hall

Post screening panel discussion with artist David Hoyle, author Will Self, film makers Huw Wahl and Amanda Ravetz, and curator Mark Prest; and chaired by Professor Jackie Stacey from the University of Manchester.
