The Filey House has now been sold and so this blog is now an archive of happy memories….
This is The Filey House at 3 Mitford Street, Filey, North Yorkshire, YO14 9DS. It belongs to my friend Katrina Cross and her family and is where her grandparents used to live. It is still used as a holiday home and has personal belongings such as family photos. For this reason she rents it out only to friends and friends of friends, rather than commercially. It is partially modernised with some mod cons and a granny-tastic aesthetic.
These details might change at some point but for now, it is:
£60 per night
Open all year round
No minimum stay
No dogs or smoking
No washing machine
3 double beds
1 bunk bed
2 single beds
Shoes off (creme carpet)
Take own bedding (duvets and pillows provided but take bed sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers)
One bathroom: toilet, sink, bath and hand-held shower
Downstairs: Vestibule, Hall, Front Room, Middle Room, Under the Stairs, Kitchen/Dining Room
1st Floor: Bathroom (toilet, sink, bath and hand-held shower), Bunkbed Room, Front Bedroom (double & single bed)
2nd Floor: Back Bedroom (double bed, Front Bedroom (double & single bed)
Back Garden: long and thin with historical points of interest
Filey is south of Scarborough on the east coast. The house is in walking distance of the beach, town centre and train station. Parking can be difficult but not impossible. It is next to Lovitt’s excellent fishmongers and backs on to the superb Filey Museum. Other attractions include Maynard’s sweets/vinyl/comics shop, Sterchi’s chocolatiers, charity shops, diverse array of pubs and independent shops, amusement arcade, food and drinks on the Coble Landing seafront of the sweeping bay, coastal walks, beach walks – NB.Hunmanby Gap Cafe, sea and fossils.
It is quite close to a number of other seafront towns, not forgetting the astonishing Scarborough Fair Museum, slightly inland.
